A year ago, Tampa Bay GIS (TBGIS) had the opportunity to host a Youth Career Day with Hillsborough County 4-H, and it turned out to be far more than just a one-day event. Today, we are incredibly honored to share that TBGIS has been recognized as "Friends of 4-H" with the Excellence in Geospatial Programs Award for that effort.
What started as a few conversations about maps, drones, and geospatial careers sparked something much bigger. Since then, several students have pursued additional learning in GIS and drone technology, and one is even planning to major in GIS at Hillsborough Community College.
That is the kind of impact you hope for, but do not always get to see. It is a great reminder that sometimes all it takes is a little exposure to help someone find their direction, or at least put them on the map.
